Eligibility, Participation and Duration
- Any person who has not been disqualified from participating in a previous
derby may participate in the derby.
- Participation occurs when an entry ticket is purchased and validated, as
provided in these rules.
- All participants must possess a 2008 Alaska sport fishing license and required
stamps.
- The derby shall commence Thursday, 12:01 AM, May 1, 2008 and close Saturday,
9:00 PM, May 31, 2008—Jerry's Meats and DeHart's being the only weigh-in
stations available at derby's end.
- Fish may be entered at the weigh-in stations only during times specified
below.
- Participants may fish from a boat or from shore.
- Non-derby participants are prohibited from fishing off the same boat
as a derby participant. However, you may go along for the ride and enjoy
your times with family & friends. Enjoy!
- Downriggers are permitted.
- Fish caught by a "proxy" may not be entered.
- Any person caught breaking the rules, or disqualified for any reason decided
by the Derby Committee, will be ineligible to participate for two (2) years
+ the year the participant was disqualified.
Entry Fee and Tickets
- Each participant, regardless of age, must possess an entry ticket prior
to the time fishing occurs. Only ticket holders are eligible for prizes.
- Early bird purchase is available at $35 beginning April 18 and ending April
30; May 1, tickets are $40.
- Entry tickets become valid when the ticket is paid for, countersigned by
the selling agent, and the date and time of purchase is stated on the ticket.
- A ticket, once validated, remains valid for the duration of the derby.

Eligible Fish
- Only gutted, gilled, fresh, unfrozen King Salmon may be entered.
- Fish must be entered at an authorized weigh-in station [listed above.]
- The participant's entry ticket must be presented with the fish the participant
seeks to enter in the derby.
- Weigh-in station personnel will complete a Spring King Derby weigh-in
ticket for participants entering fish for prize entry. Information
written are the weight of the fish, date & time it was entered and
the entry ticket number of the participant.
- Participants may enter more than one fish in the derby, but only the largest
fish will be eligible for a prize.
- Prizes will be awarded solely on the basis of the weight of entered fish.
- Entered fish remains the property of the participant.
- All entered fish must be taken in a manner, location, and time permitted
by applicable sport fishing regulations and these derby rules.
NOTE: All rules and regulations of the Alaska
Department of Fish and Game apply.
- Any person who has a reasonable belief that a fish submitted for entry was
not taken in a manner which complies with applicable law or derby rules, may
notify the Spring King Derby officials--please email derby personnel by clicking
here or call 463-7375 for further
information.
- Upon notification, the officials may hold a hearing to determine whether
the fish was caught in the manner required by these rules.
- If a hearing is held, the participant submitting the fish for entry shall
be given reasonable notice of the hearing and an opportunity to appear and
give testimony.
- At the conclusion of the hearing, the officials shall render a written
decision which shall be final and binding on the participant.
Donated Fish
The Alumni Scholarship
Assistance Program gladly accepts fish for donation. These
fish will be provided to elders and handicapped individuals. Additionally, the
Juneau Raptor Center requests your fish heads--please call 586-8393
for more information. Thank you for your consideration.

- southeast to Lizard’s Head just past Funter Bay
- and southeast from Twin Point to Pt. Styleman

- Monday through Friday for the month of May, listen to Country Taku 105
- Listen 7:35am every Monday and Friday, during the month of May, with Kelly
Perez on the Morning Show.
Prizes & Taxes
- The Alumni Scholarship Assistance Program will not be responsible
for any prizes donated by merchants who do not give as pledged or if any prizes
prove to be less valuable than shown in the donor's estimates. The values
shown for prizes listed are set by the donors.
- Taxes for prizes are the responsibility of the individual winners. Cash
prize winners will be asked to provide their taxpayer identification number
for this purpose.
- Prizes are final; no exchanges.
- Prizes shall be awarded in numerical order, according to winner’s
place. In the case of a tie, the earliest entered weighed fish will receive
the higher standing.

- $100 for largest weigh-in by a child aged 15 & under.
- One (1) randomly drawn weigh-in ticket (weighed at Jerry’s) wins
a 50-pound meat pack.

- $100 largest fish weighed AND ticket purchased at Western Auto Marine for
week/ending 5/10
- $100 largest fish weighed AND ticket purchased at Western Auto Marine for
week/ending 5/17

Awards Night
- Awards will be presented at the Vocational Training & Resource Center
on Wednesday, June 4, 2008 at 6:00 p.m. Refreshments provided.
- Prize winners, or a designated representative, are encouraged to attend
and claim their prize.
- Presentation of derby entry and weigh-in tickets are required for prize
release.
- Every effort will be made to mail the prize to the winner if they are not
available for awards night or pick-up however, verification through receipt
of winner’s entry & weigh-in ticket are required to assure winner’s
address for mailing and validation purposes.
Derby Staff and Contact Info
This derby is an annual fundraiser for the Central Council of Tlingít&
Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska's Alumni Scholarship Assistance Program
(ASAP). Funds raised from ticket sales are transferred and augmented with
other ASAP fundraisers. From here, monies are awarded to those eligible
enrolled Tlingít& Haida higher education applicants. Specific
ASAP program requirements, application and recipient information can be seen

Gaming permit #35 is issued annually from the State
of Alaska's Department of Revenue, Tax Division. Administrative staff
